Causes of "vaper's tongue" August 13 2014, 2 Comments
What is vaper's tongue?
If you've been vaping for more than a couple months then you've undoubtedly experienced the dreaded "vaper's tongue". Vaper's tongue, also known as flavor fatigue, is a term used to describe the phenomenon where you lose the ability to taste your favorite flavor after vaping it continuously for an extended amount of time.
Common causes of vaper's tongue
1. Vaping the same flavor for too long
This is one of the most common causes of vaper's tongue. Once you find your favorite e-liquid flavor, you won't want to vape anything else. The problem is that, after repeated exposure to the same e-juice flavor, you're taste buds will become desensitized to it and you'll lose the ability to taste it. Change the flavor or switch to a stronger version to regain your ability to taste it.
2. Recently quit smoking
We all know that smoking has negative health effects, and one of them is the reduced ability to taste and smell. If you just recently quit smoking, you might not be able to fully taste the e-liquid flavor. Give it time, your sense of taste and smell should recover. If you currently smoke and vape, work on eliminating the smoking habit and replacing it completely with vaping.
Dehydration can reduce your ability to taste. If this is causing your case of vaper's tongue, as soon as you're hydrated you should be good to go.
4. Colds or other illnesses
Illnesses that block the nasal passages can reduce your ability to taste, since sense of smell is actually one of the most important factors when it comes to taste. Once you recover, your ability to taste the e-liquid will come back.
